🌍 Support Enjoy it Vernacular — A Non-Profit Magazine for Language and Cultural Justice
🌍 Support Enjoy it Vernacular 🌍
At Enjoy it Vernacular, we believe every language carries the full weight of a people’s memory, imagination, and identity. Yet, across East Africa, many indigenous and endangered languages are slowly disappearing — from classrooms, literature, and daily speech.
We started this magazine as a quiet but urgent response: to provide a space for creative, critical, and cultural expression in the languages our communities dream in — not only in translation, but in their full, living power.
Runyankore-Rukiga, Luganda, Kiswahili, Kifumbila, Lukonzo, Runyoro-Rutooro, and others— these are not relics. They are rich, rhythmic, literary, and worthy of preservation and publication.
But at EVer, “vernacular” means more than language.
We honour:
Vernacular spoken. Vernacular lived. Vernacular eaten, worn, planted, walked.
Vernacular in land and sky, in customs and creativity — all that the world once called “raw” or “local” has a home here.
🔖 Bonus for Our Writers:
We welcome all submissions — but we especially encourage work that explores themes like:
Environmental conservation, gender equality, liberty, ecological knowledge, Language and/or cultural preservation, free and accessible education, economic empowerment, patriotism or at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These are not requirements — but they’re a plus. We strongly encourage writers to anchor their work in at least one or two of these focus areas.
To be candid:
Submissions that don’t meaningfully touch on any of these themes are unlikely to be accepted.
We’re building a publication with purpose — and we’re looking for writing that reflects that spirit.
🙌 Why We’re Asking for Your Support
Enjoy it Vernacular is a non-profit initiative run by passionate writers, editors, translators, and cultural stewards who believe that our languages matter. That they deserve more than to be remembered — they deserve to be used, published, and celebrated.
We are not backed by large funders. We are powered by passion and will. To sustain and grow this work, we need your help.
Your donation will help us:
Hire and compensate language editors and translators across East Africa
Pay contributors — writers, poets, and thinkers — for their creative work
Cover publication costs, both digital and limited print
Handle legal registration to prepare for future expansion as a small, community press
Fund marketing and outreach to schools, cultural centers, and language advocates
Maintain technical infrastructure for our magazine and communications
Conduct writing seminars across mentioned languages
In the future, we hope to grow into something bigger —for now, we are still a growing magazine — and your help will make all the difference.
